"People can die from an excessive dose of the truth, you know."
* Ariel Dorfman's Death and the Maiden is an emotionally charged moral confrontation between a former political prisoner and the man she believes to have been her torturer.
* Produced by SkyPilot Theatre Company, who brought you last year’s critically acclaimed TAKING SIDES by Ronald Harwood; previous celebrated productions include HELLCAB by Will Kern and REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT by Rod Serling.
When Ariel Dorfman’s Death and the Maiden first premiered in 1991 at The Royal Court in London, The Sunday Times (London) called it “a terrifying moral thriller which combines brilliant theatricality with clear thought and fierce compassion.”
Ferociously paced and filled with deadly surprises, Death and the Maiden explores a darker side of humanity-- wherein justice itself comes to seem like a brittle, even problematic creation. “This play is frighteningly relevant given the moral and political challenges we’ve faced individually and collectively over the past few years,” says director Dado. “We are quite fortunate to be in a position to stage this important play against the current backdrop of political turmoil.”
